Opal is arguably the most beautiful of all gemstones. First discovered in the early 1990’s in Mezezo, Shewa province in Ethiopia. Opals color spectrum has brilliance rivals the diamond.
Rhyolite, marl, limonite, sandstone and basalt is where Opals can be found. They are discovered in almost every color. When a turned in the light, a few extremely rare specimens show off brilliant flashes of color. Of all the Opals hues, reds against black are most rare. Greens and whites are the most common.
Sometimes a very special jewel comes along. One to celebrate and share. This is certainly one of those! This awesome Opal was discovered in the Welo District of Ethiopia, 2.500 – 3.200 meters above sea level.
It was found in the same sort of geological formations as the Australian opal. Uncovered in the Welo Amhara Regional State Highland plateau this specimen looks like a mini underwater ocean scene when held up to the light.
The Welo Opal can auction at the highest prices along with diamonds, emeralds, and rubies.
This gem was the talk of the recent Tucson international gem show. Its beauty and wonder are breathtaking!
