Happy November Gem Lovers!

In tribute to all the beautiful moons we have had lately we wanted to make Moonstone our November Gem of the month.

Moonstone is the given name of a feldspar group of gemstones, in Gemology. Characterized by its enchanting play on light, it’s name was earned due to its mysterious shimmer that changes as the stone is moved.  People in ancient times believed they could see in it the waning and crescent phases of the moon.

Fine moonstone is very rare and is harder to find each day. Discovered mostly in various places including the U.S., Sri Lanka, Burma, and India. Moonstone’s gorgeous body color ranges from colorless to white, gray, yellow, orange, green, brown and peach. The sheer effect caused by a ray of light entering a layer of the stone and being refracted back and forth thru the layers is why this stone is so popular. The sheer effect causes a moonlike glow that is one of a kind.

Used in healing for instability moonstone properties include love, good luck, happiness, psychic abilities, feminine energies and abundance. Moonstones are known for new beginnings, so they are the perfect gift for moms or moms to be! They are said to bring success and good fortune in love and business. And also to have the power of making wishes come true.
