The art of faceting is the art of cutting facets, or flat faces, on geometric shapes of precious and semi-precious gemstones. Faceting greatly improves the appearance of gemstones. When analyzing a faceted gemstone- bring this checklist!                  

  • Are the edges meeting precisely?

This is proof that the facets have been cut uniformly if they meet at the precise point.                        

  • Is the gem properly proportioned? You want the top part of the stone to comprise of 1/3 of the total height.The bottom part of the gemstone comprising the other 2/3.
  • Does the gemstone sparkle, shine, and dazzle? This ensures proper cleaning techniques have been used.
  • Is the specimen properly positioned in the jewelry casing or mounted into a display arrangement that looks professional?
  • Check the optical performance of the gemstone? When the stone is shifted, it should reflect and refract light from the variety of angles.
